Friedensau is surrounded by woods and fields. It is situated in the center of Saxony-Anhalt – somewhere between the Altmark and Flaeming and close to the provincial capital Magdeburg. Many villages in the surrounding of Friedensau are several hundred years old – some of them are 1,000 years old, whereas Friedensau is the youngest village within the district of Jerichower Land.
In 1899, the Seventh-Day Adventist Church bought a floating mill including a land of 135 acres (35 hectar). On November 18,1899 the village was founded and it was named “Friedensau” by the founders. Within a couple of years, dormitories, school buildings as well as a sanatorium, a nutriments factory, a bakery, a laundry and some more buildings and facilities were built.
Today, Friedensau belongs with its 500 citizens to the administration association of Möckern. The state-approved Friedensau Adventist University, run by the church, is part of the village. Since its beginning, it is an international university: Today live more than 30 nations of students and lecturers on the campus. The new library with more than 150,000 media also belongs to the university.
The retirement home, which was new built and complemented by a modern relaxing pool, offers a place for a living in single rooms for elderly dependents.
Feel welcome here in Friedensau also as overnight guests seeking for peace. You will find an accommodation in our guesthouse. Many cultural and sportive offers are ready to be discovered: outdoor chess, tennis, a workout room, the popular Ladencafé, the high-rope course and the camping site for children and young people – and for the toddlers: a kinder garden.
Friedensau with its unusual history can continue to be optimistic about its future. Two projects which are currently tackled and which should support the idea of a further development of Friedensau serve as an example: the restructuring of the old floating mill and the development of the camping site as an integrated part of Friedensau.
Friedensau is supported by the diverse commitment of donors, workcamp participants, employees and of people who recognize and support the commission of Friedensau: Educating people for their service in the church and in the society: yesterday – today – tomorrow!
Come and visit Friedensau!
